Damascus, VA

Hey guys,

I've finally made it into Virginia, where I will spend the next month and then some. The trail through VA is over 700 miles, but by the time I make it out of VA, I'll practically be in PA. I'm planning to do the 4-state challenge, which is about 44 miles in 24 hours: you start at the northern end of VA, cross through WV and MD, and then collapse once you hit the PA border. Anyone want to come drive all my stuff across and drive me around the next day so I can stop to take my picture in Harper's Ferry?

Since the last time I posted, which was in Hot Springs, we've seen and done some pretty cool stuff. Here are some pictures:

At Fontana Dam just before entering the Smokies:

In the woods the morning before hitting the top of Clingman's Dome, the highest point on the AT:

Booty Club on top of Clingman's Dome (me, Jana, Almost There, Pixel, Phlegm, and 6:30):

On top of Charlie's Bunion:

In Hot Springs, we all got mohawks:

Overmountain Shelter is a converted barn in the woods, where we ate lunch one day:

A view of Little Hump as we were climbing, just after Roan Mtn, the last 6000-foot peak until Mt. Washington:

At Jones Falls, coming from Elk Park towards Hampton:

At Kincora Hostel in Hampton, Milo and I shared this laundry room floor to keep warm on a very chilly night:

Looking forward as I climbed the Humps:

Laurel Fork Falls, just outside of Hampton:
